Ziva
Meet Ziva, a sweet 9 year old Yorkie mix who recently joined our rescue after being surrendered to a local shelter. Weighing in at around 16 pounds, she’s a little taller and bigger than your typical Yorkie, with a heart to match. While Ziva is an absolute gem of a dog, she came to us suffering greatly and in desperate need of some overdue medical care.
When Ziva first arrived, she was dealing with significant hair loss, dry skin, and a dull coat. She was also sneezing thick green mucus, which led us to discover the root of her discomfort: her mouth. Ziva has severe dental disease, including rotten teeth and extensive gum recession. Most painfully, she has developed an oro-nasal fistula—a hole in her gums that allows food, saliva, and debris to pass into her nasal cavity, causing a persistent infection and making it very difficult for her to eat comfortably. Small senior dogs like Ziva require routine dental maintenance, and it’s clear she went far too long without the care she needed.
The great news is that help is already on the way! Next Friday(August 28th), Dr. Hayden at April Vets Cambridge will be performing an extensive dental surgery to repair the fistula, remove her bad teeth, and get her mouth completely healthy again. Combined with a nutritious diet, supplements, soothing baths, and lots of love, we are confident her skin and coat will bounce back in no time.
Despite everything she has been through, Ziva’s spirit hasn't been broken. She is wonderful with other dogs, fantastic with kids, great in the car, and now settled comfortably in her crate. She walks like a dream on leash, but her absolute favorite thing is tearing around a big backyard doing happy zoomies!
Ziva is a lovely, resilient senior gal who is going to make a future family so deeply happy. She will need a couple of weeks to recover from her surgery before she is officially ready to head home, but we are taking inquiries now.
